What goes into our products - Beard Oil

If you are anything like us, you want to know what is in the products you use. So when it comes to our products the answer is: The good and only the good.

We don’t test on animals or use excess packaging. We strive to be as natural and eco-friendly as we can. We try to ensure everything we use is derived or extracted from natural sources and everything is free from mineral oils, parabens, silicones and sulphates. When it comes to some ingredients a few might be man-made, things like preservatives. But without them we, and you, could be in real trouble.

ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

Made from crushed and charred coconut shells, charcoal is effective at cleansing skin and hair by gently removing toxins and oils by attracting impurities removing them from hair and skin.

ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA) LEAF EXTRACT/JUICE/POWDER

Used for centuries Aloe Vera is known for its skin soothing properties remedying burns and inflammation. Extracted from the gel in the centre of the leaf it’s naturally occurring lignin aids also drawing other ingredients to the skin. It comes in many different forms including the juice or a gel and concentrated extract or powder form.

AQUA (WATER)

What can we say. Water. Plain so. Clean, natural and straight from freshwater springs.

ARGAN SPINOSA (ARGAN) OIL

Argan Oil is made from the kernels of the Argan Spinosa tree and is rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acids, including linoleum acid, Omega 6 and natural tocopherols. It is highly nourishing for both skin and hair and with 80% essential fatty acids it helps reduce inflammation, help heal skin and reduce flaking. An antioxidant, Argan oil helps reduce frizz and rough cuticles by reducing free radicals.

BENZYL ALCOHOL

Benzyl alcohol can be found naturally in plants or synthetically made and is used to stabilise and preserve products and prevent microorganisms growing.

BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA BUTTER) FRUIT

Unrefined East African Shea (subspecies Nilotica) made from the nuts of the Vitellaria Nicotica, a subspecies of the Karite tree. Native to East Africa it is much rarer and more conditioning than other shea butters. Easily absorbed and rich in antioxidants and Vitamins A and E it is an excellent moisturiser and helps maintain elasticity helping prevent skin cracking and hair becoming brittle. It is also known for its therapeutic qualities aiding conditions including dryness, sunburn, eczema.

CALCIUM CARBONATE (LIMESTONE)

Also known as limestone, calcium carbonate is the same mineral that makes up shells and sand it is a gentle exfoliate.

CAMELLIA SINENSIS CERA (GREEN TEA WAX)

Made from green tea leaves it is a natural colourant, rich in antioxidants.

CANNABIS SATIVA (HEMP) SEED OIL

Hemp Oil is one of natures richest sources of essential fatty acids and Omega 3 oils. Extracted from the seeds of the cannabis plant it helps keep skin and hair soft and strong. Ideal for dry skin and alleviating acne and eczema it also helps reduce free radicals that can age skin.

CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE (FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL)

The liquid portion that has been separated from the harder fats and long-chain fatty acids of what makes up solid virgin coconut oil. Unlike virgin coconut oil it is quickly absorbed, less greasy and less prone to clogging pores because it has little to no Lauric acid (which is what can cause acne breakouts). It is highly moisturising, nutrient-rich and used as an emollient aiding dry skin and hair, often used for treating acne and other skin irritations.

CARICA PAPAYA (PAPAYA) SEED OIL

Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, papaya seed oil (paw paw in Barbados) helps reduce wrinkles, acne and dark spots and helps reduce scarring by promoting skin growth. Extracted from the seed of the fruit it contains papain which helps break down dead skin cells and gently exfoliate skin.

CERA ALBA (BEESWAX)

A natural wax produced by honey bees of the genus Apis. It consists mainly of esters of fatty acids and various long-chain alcohols. It works as a barrier to protect skin and hair from contaminants that might otherwise irritate and has been found in a German study to be superior to mineral oil-based creams. It is used to provide firmness.

CETEARYL ALCOHOL

A natural and mild emulsifier extracted from corn and coconut using eco-friendly principles and without the use of chemicals or solvents. It is used to bind water and oil to form cream and lotion emulsions.

CITRAL

A naturally occurring scent ingredient found in lemons.

CITRUS AURANTIUM BERGAMIA (BERGAMOT) PEEL OIL

Squeezed from the peel of bergamot oranges it is sweet, fresh and probably one of the essential oils that will leave you feeling happy and is a popular ingredient for use in colognes.

CITRUS AURANTIUM (PETITGRAIN) LEAF/TWIG OIL

Extracted from orange tree leaves and twigs, petitgrain is known for its relaxing properties, helping calm anger, panic, setting minds at ease. A natural deodoriser, it is also great at helping clear greasy skin, acne and fighting skin blemishes

CITRUS LIMON (LEMON) PEEL OIL

Lemon oil is squeezed from the skin of lemons. It is a great cleaning agent and adds shine to hair and helps reduce skin blemishes.

COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL

Coconut oil is harvested from the meat or kernel of mature coconuts. It is highly conditioning and moisturising. Rich in Vitamin E, proteins, fatty acids like Lauric acid and capris and caprylic acids all full of anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It’s chemical makeup is designed to penetrate the hair and when used in conjunction with other oils it helps track water and the oils in the skin and hair helping strengthen and prevent breakage and split ends.

CORIANDRUM SATIVUM (CORIANDER) SEED OIL

A warm, sweet and spicy smelling oil, used for centuries to help fight fatigue and relieve muscular pain.

DEHYDROACETIC ACID

Both found naturally in species of nightshade flowers and made synthetically, Dehydroacetic acid is used to preserve products and extend their life.

EUGENOL

A naturally occurring scent chemical found in clove oil, cinnamon, nutmeg, basil and bay leaf.

FRAGRANCE / ESSENTIAL OIL

We only create fragrances from Essential and Absolute oils and extracts from plants and natural sources. We don’t use any mineral oils or those that are derived from animals. Essential and absolute oils are highly concentrated aroma compounds from plants. They are the “essence” of a plant’s fragrance. Many have varying health benefits but in large quantities can be toxic and so are used only in small quantities, more than enough to provide the benefits.

FUCUS VESICULOSUS (SEAWEED) EXTRACT

Seaweed (Fucus) is a rich source of sea minerals including iodine. Typically found in anti-aging products, seaweed can help improve acne, eczema and other skin conditions. All the goodness of the sea, trapped in a plant.

GERANIOL

A naturally occurring scent ingredient found in flowers such as rose, citronella and lemon oils. It is a natural repellant to many insects including mosquitoes.

GLYCERIN

A natural by-product of the saponification (soap making) process. Formed when oil and an alkaline (lye) react to form soap and glycerine (glycerol), it moisturises by drawing water to skin.

HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL

Pressed from the seeds of sunflowers, Sunflower oil is rich in Vitamins A, D and E and easily absorbed by the skin.

LIMONENE

A naturally occurring scent ingredient in the skin of citrus fruit and citrus essential oils.

LINALOOL

A soft, sweet naturally occurring scent compound found in lemon, rose, mint and cinnamon.

LYE

Lye is what turns oil into soap. Sodium hydroxide by name, it can traditionally be obtained from burnt plantain and palm leaves.

MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) FRUIT POWDER

Also known as Amchur, Mango Fruit Powder is a traditional Indian ingredient used in both cooking and in face care. Used as a mild scrub, it is made from unrip, sun-dried mangoes and is rich in vitamin A and C, antioxidants and helps to reduce dark spots and uneven skin tones.

MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED OIL

Mango Oil (or butter at room temperature) is light and non-comedogenic, meaning it probably won't clog pores like some heavier oils, and so suitable for most skin types. Expressed from the seeds of mangoes it is rich in vitamins, including E and C which can help protect skin from daily enviromental stresses including sunlight, pollution and blue light from digital screens.

MARIS SAL (SEA SALT)

The sea is an immensely rich source of minerals, including magnesium, calcium and potassium. All of which are trapped in sea salt. It helps combat acne, speed up healing, cleanse pores and balance skin and it's ability to retain water.

MOROCCAN (RHASSOUL) LAVA CLAY

A volcanic clay rich in silica and magnesium only found in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. Absorbing excess oil and dirt from both hair and skin without damaging their structures it is a good cleanser for sensitive skin.

PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL

Unrefined avocado oil pressed from the pulp of avocado fruit. Ideal for helping stimulate hair growth, it is quickly absorbed, rich in antioxidants, Vitamin A and D and monounsaturated fatty acids making it a great moisturiser helping nourish and strengthen both hair and skin.

POTASSIUM SORBATE

Although often man-made, potassium sortable can be found naturally as the salt of sorbic acid which can be found in some fruit. It is used as a preservative to prevent the growth of microorganisms.

SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) OIL

Jojoba Oil is extracted from the seeds of the Simmondsia Chinensis shrub which is native to America. It has a chemical makeup similar to that of the skin’s natural sebum and so easily absorbed, and can trick the skin into producing less natural sebum aiding oily skin and preventing acne. It has antimicrobial properties and an anti-inflammatory that is also rich in both Vitamins E and B making it ideal for healing wounds.

SODIUM ARGANATE (ARGAN OIL)

Saponified argan oil, formed when argan oil reacts with lye during the soap making process.

SODIUM AVOCADOATE (AVOCADO OIL)

Saponified avocado oil, formed when avocado oil reacts with lye during the soap making process.

SODIUM BENZOATE

The sodium salt of benzoic acid, sodium benzoate can be found naturally in low quantities in cranberries, plums and other fruit. It is used as a preservative.

SODIUM COCOATE (COCONUT OIL)

Saponified coconut oil, formed when coconut oil reacts with lye during the soap making process.

SODIUM SHEA BUTTERATE (SHEA BUTTER)

Saponified shea butter, formed when shea butter reacts with lye during the soap making process.

TOCOPHEROL

Derived from vegetable oils Tocopherol or Vitamin E is an antioxidant that aids skin protection. Tocopherols make up 96% of your skin’s natural antioxidant defence system.
